History[]

The Queen's Own BC Hussars traces its origins back to the formation at Princeton in 1871 of The British Columbia Hussars, a light cavalry regiment. After serving in the Second Boer War and both the First and Second World Wars, after the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the unit was renamed to its current name after the new Sovereign.

The unit mechanised in 1938 as a tank regiment, and through the Second World War the 1st and 2nd Battalions were tanks, whilst the 3rd Battalion was light reconnaissance. The QOBCH remained a tank regiment until 1948, when it was converted to an armoured reconnaissance unit, in which function it has served since.
